Cwm Harry is interested in helping to sustain the local food economy.

Cwm Harry has built a local food and community growing team over the last few years.

Cwm Harry undertakes to buy produce from certain local producers which it distributes throughtout the area via a local box scheme

It is this produce which now makes up a substantial part of the weekly vegetables boxes. Food is also bought in from Pont Farm, Bettws Cedewain, and the Organic Fresh Food Company, based in Lampeter. In the future Cwm Harry hopes to work closely with the Powys Growers’ Group – this is a group of independent, small-scale growers working in various parts of Powys who are keen to develop a local market for their produce.

Cwm Harry has developed a 2 1/2 acre horticulture centre on land belonging to the Newtown college where we grow a certain amount of produce and have developed a local distribution hub. We also run courses and have regular volunteer days on Mondays and Wednesdays

One of our principle growing project has been running since April 2012 and is funded by the national lottery. The aim of this project is to develop three community market gardens and growing hubs over a period of three years, these are located in Newtown, llanidloes and Llanfyllin. There is lots more about this fantastic project on the Get-Growing website.
